If you've ever met Katie, you've probably noticed the stack of silver bracelets on her wrist — fifteen of them to be exact. Each one is engraved with an inspirational quote and was collected over the years. The first one came from her parents when she graduated from high school, inscribed with the words that would become something of a life motto: "If you can dream it, you can do it."
She has been a dreamer her whole life. Since she was little, she dreamed of having her own business someday. Back then, she pictured a store or a café where she could bake and make art, two of her favorite things. As the years went by, that idea faded. She started in college as a fine arts major because she loved oil painting, but she soon realized she needed a more reliable career path. It was her professor, Tom Proietti at Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY, who introduced her to the world of communications — and opened a door she didn't know existed.
From there, she fulfilled her lifelong dream of leaving her small town and moving to New York City. After falling into the world of marketing by chance, she envisioned herself becoming a top advertising executive. While working at a boutique agency in the City, she pursued her master's degree in nonprofit management, envisioning a future role where she'd manage a portfolio of nonprofit clients. But the intensive, high-pressure culture of that world didn't sit well with her, so she had to figure out what was next.
After receiving her master's degree, Katie landed a marketing manager position at a large New York City hospital system. By chance, she was assigned to manage the marketing for the psychiatry, addiction, and neuroscience service lines. Little did they know, this aligned perfectly with her own lived experience and her passion for reducing stigma around mental health. After moving to Connecticut, she continued working in the behavioral health field by taking a role at a renowned treatment facility. There she would meet a supervisor who would play a pivotal role in her story.
After her son Daniel was born in 2014, Katie left her full-time role and began doing freelance writing for the organization so she could be at home with her son. Not entirely sure where her path was leading, she created Daydream Communications in 2016. At the time, she had no aspirations of running a marketing agency. It was just a business name. Her supervisor handed her a list of people at local mental health agencies who might need freelance help. She sent out a few cold emails and the rest is history.
Through word of mouth and an unwavering commitment to the mission, Daydream Communications grew into an agency. A decade later, it has become one of Connecticut's leading behavioral health marketing agencies, built on top talent, deep expertise, and a genuine passion for the work.
This journey is so much more than a business story. It's a testament to years of hard work, passion, and unapologetic authenticity. Katie has always been open about her own mental health journey because she believes that sharing our stories is one of the most powerful tools we have to reduce stigma. That personal experience is woven into the DNA of Daydream, shaping an understanding of this space that isn't something that can be learned by studying.
Daydream is honored to work alongside so many talented, dedicated people who are just as committed to this mission. Passionate people working together change the world.
This is a daydream brought to life — and we are incredibly grateful to every person who has been part of the journey. To the clients who have become friends. To the partners who took a chance on us. To the mentors, supporters, and collaborators who believed in this vision before it had a name.
Welcome to Daydream Communications. We're so glad you found us.
